Even though women’s history month is over, we can still talk about important social issues that greatly impact women of the modern age.
Prudence was just an absolute pleasure to work with. Before we unpack how the session went and Prudence’s story, check out some of the photos! She is an absolute joy and I can’t wait to work with her again in the future!
As in previous posts, I asked Prudence (a.k.a Queen) what her biggest challenge has been that no one really understands, and her response was something that we don’t talk about often enough!
Medical issues and how they affect women!
Queen has a condition called Lymphedema, which I must admit, I had no idea existed. As a result, I did some research! Lymphedema is a condition where blockages appear in the lymphatic system and cause excess liquid to build up in the body. This can cause a lot of pain and can really dampen a person’s confidence.
Some remedies for Lymphedema include exercise, avoiding certain kinds of foods, and full body massages. According to Google of course, I’m sure there are challenges to these and that each case presents itself differently. Being diagnosed with this illness requires lifestyle changes and may even change how a person sees themselves. Prudence, at no point, gave me the impression that her life was put on hold by this illness. She’s too strong to let anything hold her back!
She spends most, if not all, of her time being an elected official, small business owner, and all-around all-star! It’s so refreshing to see such a strong-willed woman chasing after her dreams despite having such huge obstacles to overcome! At another point in the “getting to know you” phase, I asked her about a time where she felt she was living her best life and she said RIGHT NOW!!!
She was so confident is what she had to offer that I had to prompt her very little. She knew what she had and how to move it! That is some serious body confidence.
Let’s talk about body confidence for a few minutes. Body confidence, like overall confidence, is something that has to be constantly worked on. No one is born with absolute confidence and if you are someone reading this who was, then we need to know all of your secrets!!
Just in case you, dear reader, aren’t aware of what body confidence is, it’s the feeling of complete and total acceptance and appreciation for one’s physical form. Body confidence is being able to move your body in ways that don’t give off the feeling of insecurity. In case you’re struggling with feeling your body the way that you deserve to feel it, here are a few tips you can use to get started with it:
With all of these little steps you can take, you will slowly start to see a change in not only how you perceive yourself, but how other see you as well.
With that I will leave you, dear reader, with a quote from Sophie Lewis, a blogger that has been an advocate for body positivity. Be you, do you, FOR you.
